ZIMREN Membership is open only to Research and Educational institutions that are endorsed by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development through the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education.

These are public and private institutions of higher education and research which offer academic degrees in various subjects, typically providing undergraduate education and postgraduate education.
Tertiary Institutions
These are public and private Institutions of higher learning that typically offer academic and professional programs.
Universities
These are research Centers engaging in basic or applied research and natural science programs.
